Amazon Web Services to hold Machine Learning Summit

[ad_1]

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will be holding a virtual Machine Learning Summit on June 2 and 3, with the goal of bringing together customers, developers, and the science community to learn about advances in the practice of machine learning (ML).

This spring’s Summit will include four audience-focused tracks:

  • Science of Machine Learning;
  • Impact of Machine Learning;
  • How Machine Learning Is Done; and
  • Machine Learning — No Experience Required.

The event will kick off with a keynote talk by Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS vice president of machine learning, that will include appearances by Bratin Saha, vice president of AWS Machine Learning Services; Yoelle Maarek, vice president of research science, Alexa Shopping; and a guest customer speaker.

The science track is focused on the data science and advanced practitioner audience, and will highlight the work AWS and Amazon scientists are doing to advance machine learning. The track will comprise six sessions, each lasting 30 minutes, and a 45-minute fireside chat.

Among the speakers in the science track will be two Amazon Scholars, Michael Kearns and Kathleen McKeown. Kearns is a professor in the Computer and Information Science department at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds the National Center Chair. He is co-author of the book “The Ethical Algorithm: The Science of Socially Aware Algorithm Design”, and joined Amazon as a scholar last June.

McKeown is the Henry and Gertrude Rothschild professor of computer science at Columbia University, and the founding director of the school’s Data Science Institute. She joined Amazon as a scholar in 2019.  The track also will include a powerhouse fireside chat on deep learning and language with Amazon distinguished scientists Alex Smola and Bernhard Schölkopf, and Alexa AI senior principal scientist Dilek Hakkani-Tur. Additional science track speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Previously, the ML Summit has been held in conjunction with the annual AWS re:Invent conference. The most recent Summit, held in 2019, comprised these talks, including a presentation from Pietro Perona, Amazon Fellow, and Caltech professor of computer vision.
